A skier being filmed base-jumping off a cliff in the Alps was in for surprise when he turned around to see an avalanche just seconds behind him. The footage starts with Matthias Giraud slowly traversing through the French slopes before picking up speed as the mountain edge approached. Hurtling towards the ground, the daredevil opens his parachute, unaware of the chaotic scenes behind him. It is only when Giraud turns back towards the mountain that he sees a huge avalanche coming down the mountain. The skier and cameraman Stefan Laude, who was filming the stunt, both landed safely.
